Summer Fun
As many of you parents know, summer can get very long and you have to get creative to pass the time sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love summer and love having the kids at home with me. I don't think the feeling is mutual at times however especailly with the "B" word comes from the kid's mouths (the "B" word is BORED in case you were wondering). On the rare days we don't have both a morning AND afternoon activity or playdate planned...watch out! You would think the children are being deprived of oxygen by the amount of moaning and groaning going on around here. Every morning we have school time which I happen to enjoy planning for and doing with the kids. I am reviewing all the letters, numbers, and shapes with Hilary so she will be all set to start Kindergarten in a few weeks. I put together a unit on time and money for the older kids which they thought was pretty fun. I introduced the idea of making change and counting back money. You never know when that cashier is going to give you the wrong change for the new deck of Pokemon cards you just bought! Ha Ha I am also reviewing all the basics of the English language like adverbs, adjectives, predicates etc...my how quickly those things can be forgotten. Danny's got half of his Multiplication table down and I will be starting long division with Lindsey next week...how could these kids ever be bored! Ha Ha I just finished reading out loud the children's classic chapter book, Mr. Popper's Penquins which they all enjoyed. We have now started Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh...sure to be a family favorite. The pictures above are from some creative times. The kid's great Aunt Ronaele and Uncle Lincoln gave them a cool elephant sprinkler that we have put to good use in the backyard. The last two pictures are of some awesome carboard creations the kids made on a rainy day. Hope you all are enjoying your summer!
